What the check actually does

Make sure the price matches the repair.

“No hot water” is not enough information to price a job fairly. The checker asks what you can see, explains unfamiliar parts as you go, and separates a small repair from maintenance, replacement, or a bigger project before it compares the number.

1

Tell us what is happening

Start with the problem and answer the equipment, condition, quantity, and access questions you can verify.

2

Enter the real total

Use the complete price they gave you—not the monthly payment, a verbal starting price, or one piece of the job.

3

See where it lands

We compare it with the closest mapped job and show which questions you should ask before signing.

Have these nearby

A better submission produces a better comparison.

You do not need to understand internal plumbing codes or contractor SKUs. You do need enough visible information to keep a repair, replacement, and larger project from being treated as the same job.

01

The written quote

Look for the equipment or part, quantity, removal, installation, testing, permit responsibility, cleanup, restoration, exclusions, and warranty.

02

The job location

Use the Utah city or ZIP where the work will happen. The current guide covers the published Wasatch Front service area—not every market in Utah.

03

Photos of the real conditions

Show the equipment, label, connections, surrounding work area, access path, damaged material, and any area the salesperson said must be opened or replaced.

04

The promise made in the home

Note anything important that was said but not written: urgency, code claims, included restoration, financing, “today only” pricing, or why a complete replacement was recommended.

When the price check needs a person

Some jobs need a master plumber—not a fake instant number.

If the problem is unsafe, the diagnosis is unclear, or the written quote describes a larger project, we take you straight to the upload screen so an expert can look at the real job.

!

The diagnosis is still unknown

Intermittent leaks, recurring stoppages, controls, pressure problems, and hidden failures may need testing before repair can be named.

!

The proposal describes a different project

Excavation, whole-home repiping, major gas work, remodel coordination, or replacement sold without a supported failure may not fit a quick mapped task.

!

Safety or active damage is involved

Gas odor, uncontrolled water, sewage exposure, electrical hazards, fire damage, or an unsafe installation belongs with immediate professional help.

!

The final scope needs human responsibility

A master plumber can review the quote and files, text for any missing detail, and send a final quote when the job is clear enough.

FAQ

Before you run a price check

The tool is private by default and separates the instant comparison from the optional request for contractor contact.

Do I have to give a phone number?

No. The quick comparison comes first. A phone number and SMS consent are required only if you choose to send the job to a plumber for review and a final quote.

What happens to the company name?

You can name the quote source or choose “I prefer not to say.” Named submissions support private research and review; they are not published as public accusations or ratings.

How many checks can I run?

The independent checker allows three checks per day. The limit protects the private pricing data and keeps automated scraping from turning the homeowner tool into a bulk pricebook feed.

What happens to uploaded files?

Documents, photos, and videos stay private with the quote record so a master plumber can review the job and the pricing guide can improve. They are not published. See the Privacy Policy for the complete data boundary.

Tyler, Utah master plumber and editor of Utah Plumbing Prices

Built by Tyler, a Utah master plumber

You deserve an explanation before a four-figure decision.

I have watched the sales-driven plumbing playbook turn a simple repair into a same-day replacement pitch: scare the homeowner, bury the details in financing, and make the price expire before the truck leaves. I built these guides to slow that conversation down and show you what I would check before spending the money.
