Fixture and mounting pattern
Single-hole, centerset, widespread, wall-mounted, pull-down, and touch faucets need different mounting space and connections.
Installation cost changes with faucet style, mounting holes, sink access, existing shutoffs, supply connections, side accessories, and whether the customer or plumber supplies the fixture.
Where the money goes
The part is only one piece of the price. A good plumber can walk you through the diagnosis, materials, labor, access, testing, cleanup, and warranty without hiding behind a monthly payment.

Single-hole, centerset, widespread, wall-mounted, pull-down, and touch faucets need different mounting space and connections.
02
Deep bowls, shelves, disposals, stone counters, and cramped cabinets can add removal time or require another trade.
03
Existing stops must hold and the new supplies must fit. Corroded valves or rigid connections are separate work.
04
Sprayers, soap dispensers, filtration taps, pop-up drains, strainers, and dishwasher air gaps should be listed instead of assumed.
Before you trust the total
A fair plumber should be able to tell you what failed, what they plan to do, what is included, and what could change the price. If two quotes describe different work, the cheaper number proves nothing.
01
A comparable quote states the faucet model or allowance, removal, mounting, new connections, testing, cleanup, disposal, and any separate work on drains or shutoff valves.
02
Widespread fixtures, wall-mounted faucets, tight cabinets, stone drilling, failed stops, corroded connections, or incompatible holes create additional scope.
03
Confirm the fixture, finish, accessories, warranty, disposal, supply lines, and shutoff condition. A low labor-only number is not comparable to a quote that includes the faucet.
Make them spell it out
One plumber may include work that another leaves out. Check these lines before deciding one quote is cheaper.

These do not automatically make a contractor crooked. They do mean you should slow the conversation down, ask for proof, and refuse to sign just because the price “expires today.”
Make sure both quotes either include the fixture and accessories or separate them clearly.
Model, finish, and included accessories can change material cost substantially.
A quote should explain what happens if the stops will not shut off or the supplies cannot be reused.
Plumbers connect fixtures; drilling or modifying stone may require a countertop professional.

Built by Tyler, a Utah master plumber
I have watched the sales-driven plumbing playbook turn a simple repair into a same-day replacement pitch: scare the homeowner, bury the details in financing, and make the price expire before the truck leaves. I built these guides to slow that conversation down and show you what I would check before spending the money.

Send a photo above the sink, a clear cabinet photo, the faucet model or product link, the hole pattern, and any accessories that must be connected.
It can lower the contractor’s material line, but labor, fit risk, missing parts, product defects, return handling, and product warranty responsibility still need to be compared.
Not automatically. The quote should state whether the existing stops are reused, tested, or replaced.
Usually the sink, holes, cabinet, and mounting surface must be complete and accessible. The plumber should confirm the sequencing for wall-mounted or specialty fixtures.
