Water Heater Prices in Utah: Tanks, Power Vent, Tankless, Repairs & Add-Ons

The direct numbers are below—then the scope that makes them honest. This page maps every publishable water-heater task in the current first-party ledger and clearly labels the product, fuel, vent, warranty, tax, and city questions the data cannot answer yet.

Canonical answer map

Utah water heater pricing: the price questions this guide answers

The most useful Utah water-heater price answer is a mapped task plus a complete scope. The first-party UPP feed has exact references for standard 40- and 50-gallon gas, standard 40- and 50-gallon electric, 40- and 50-gallon power-vent tanks, three tankless installation tiers, named repairs, maintenance and selected add-ons. It does not publish every size, vent style, brand or conversion, so unsupported variants stay explicitly unpriced until the property and equipment are verified.

  • Water-heater pricing FAQ

Mapped water-heater task references

Use the named task and its scope assumptions before comparing an amount. A gallon size or product tier alone is not a complete installation definition.

Compare capacity, fuel and vent path

Capacity follows demand; fuel and vent path follow the home's existing infrastructure and the selected equipment. generic standard, electric and power vent are separate mapped tasks, while atmospheric and direct vent remain unpriced variants here.

Labor, equipment and inclusions

The feed stores task amounts, not a labor/equipment split. Confirm removal, haul-away, connections, pan, expansion control, seismic restraint, vent or electrical work, startup, testing, permits and warranty in writing.

Unsupported specialty variants

Narrow, compact, 75-gallon, dual-tank, brand-specific tankless, direct-vent and conversion totals are not published from the reviewed feed. Do not borrow a nearby task amount.

Repair, maintenance and replacement

Repair components and maintenance have their own task references. Compare the verified failure, tank condition, warranty and remaining service life with the complete replacement scope.

Verify code and permit responsibility

The page can explain questions to ask, but the local authority and licensed contractor must verify current permit, inspection, venting, gas, electrical and safety requirements for the property.

Water-heater pricing FAQ

The visible FAQ answers common tank, tankless, repair, add-on, tax and quote-comparison questions without converting unsupported variants into false precision.

The company license is not the whole answer

Ask who is actually installing your water heater.

Ask for a licensed journeyman or master plumber to be responsible for the installation—and, if you want that credential level physically on site, put the request in writing before you book. A reputable company should plainly identify the person arriving, that person’s Utah credential level, and the licensed supervisor responsible for the job.

Utah recognizes apprentice, residential journeyman, journeyman, residential master, and master plumber classifications. An apprentice doing plumbing is not automatically a red flag; apprenticeship is a licensed training path tied to supervision. The red flag is a company that hides who is performing or supervising the work, cannot explain the supervision plan, or uses “the company is licensed” to avoid answering about the individual at your home.

Ask these before scheduling

  • Will a Utah-licensed journeyman, residential journeyman, or master plumber be on site?
  • If an apprentice performs part of the work, who is the named licensed supervisor and how will that person inspect or approve it?
  • What is the installer’s full name and license classification?
  • Who is responsible for model selection, venting or electrical scope, startup, testing, permit handling, and final correction?
  • Will the requested credential level appear in the appointment notes or written proposal?

Do not accept these dodges

  • “The company is licensed” with no answer about the person doing the work
  • No named supervisor for an apprentice or trainee
  • The salesperson refuses a reasonable request for a journeyman on site
  • The installer cannot explain the proposed model, vent, connections, safety parts, testing, or permit responsibility
  • Pressure to sign before you can verify the credential or complete scope

Installed tank benchmarks

How much does water heater replacement cost in Utah?

Direct answer: the reviewed snapshot lists six main tank-install tasks from $2,090 for a 40-gallon electric installation to $4,220 for a 50-gallon power-vent installation. The generic “Standard 40 Gal” and “Standard 50 Gal” task labels do not explicitly state fuel, so this guide does not silently relabel them as gas prices.

Source snapshot: 134 first-party task rows; water-heater amounts reviewed August 6, 2026.

Reviewed task-price answers. The benchmark is the first-party task record; the band is a disclosed comparison calculation, not a market average.

Capacity comparison

40-gallon vs. 50-gallon water heater installed price

40-gallon task references

The snapshot records $2,440 for the generic standard 40-gallon install, $2,090 for 40-gallon electric, and $3,930 for 40-gallon power vent.

Capacity is only one attribute. First-hour delivery, recovery, dimensions, fuel, venting, and household draw still control whether a 40-gallon model fits the job.

50-gallon task references

The snapshot records $2,670 for the generic standard 50-gallon install, $2,210 for 50-gallon electric, and $4,220 for 50-gallon power vent.

The observed difference is specific to these task records. It does not prove that every 50-gallon project costs a fixed amount more than every 40-gallon project.

Do not compare unlike systems

Gas vs. electric vs. power-vent water heater price

The honest answer starts with the source labels. Electric and power-vent rows are explicit. The two generic standard rows do not say “gas” in the public snapshot, even though a homeowner may use that comparison as a gas-versus-electric search. Before naming a fuel-specific total, the proposal should identify the exact model and fuel.

Electric installation

Compare tank capacity, circuit and disconnect requirements, panel capacity, access, drain protection, expansion control, startup, and the exact model warranty.

Atmospheric or power vent

Atmospheric, power-vent, direct-vent, and power-direct-vent units are different systems. The manufacturer’s model-specific manual controls allowable vent material, route, termination, combustion air, power, and condensate requirements.

A. O. Smith’s manufacturer venting guide explains the system distinctions; use the proposed model manual for the actual installation.

Tankless and conversion scope

How much does tankless water heater installation cost in Utah?

Direct answer: the snapshot lists $5,400 standard, $6,000 preferred, and $7,000 premium tankless installation tiers. A tier label is not a model or sizing calculation.

What “all-in” must actually say

What should an installed water heater price include?

A slogan is not a scope. Put these fields in writing so the total can be compared and later enforced.

Equipment and plumbing

  • Exact manufacturer, model, capacity, fuel, vent type and warranty tier
  • Removal and disposal of the old unit
  • Water and fuel connections, shutoff work and relief-discharge scope
  • Pan, drain, expansion control and seismic restraint when applicable to the real installation
  • Filling, purging, startup, combustion or electrical checks, leak testing and homeowner handoff

Responsibility and exclusions

  • Permit and inspection responsibility
  • Tax treatment and payment schedule
  • Gas-meter, electrical-panel, circuit, vent, drain, platform or relocation work
  • Drywall, flooring, shelving, masonry, painting, drying or water-damage restoration
  • Manufacturer, parts, labor and return-visit warranty boundaries

Territory without bullshit

Water heater inquiries that still need a reviewed UPP amount

These are real searches and real project types, but the current snapshot does not support a defensible numeric answer. They remain in the query map so the site can answer the decision and scope without manufacturing a price.

  • 75-gallon gas installation
  • Dual 50-gallon or 100-gallon systems
  • Narrow 18-inch or 20-inch tanks
  • Compact and point-of-use electric tanks
  • Direct-vent and power-direct-vent tank prices
  • Heat-pump water heater installation and gas-to-heat-pump conversion
  • Specific Rinnai, Navien, Noritz, A. O. Smith, State, Rheem, Bradford White or other model offers
  • Recirculation design and pump installation
  • Fuel conversion, meter upgrade and major electrical-service work
  • Water-damage and finish restoration

Utah water heater pricing FAQ

How much is a standard 40-gallon water heater install in Utah?

The reviewed UPP task snapshot lists Standard 40 Gal Water Heater Install at $2,440. The source label does not explicitly state fuel, tax treatment, or every included part, so match the written task and complete scope before treating it as a quote.

How much is a standard 50-gallon water heater install in Utah?

The reviewed UPP task snapshot lists Standard 50 Gal Water Heater Install at $2,670. It is a first-party comparison benchmark, not a universal all-in promise.

How much is a 40-gallon electric water heater install?

The current first-party benchmark for Standard 40 Gallon Electric Water Heater Install is $2,090, reviewed August 6, 2026.

How much is a 50-gallon electric water heater install?

How much is a 40-gallon power-vent water heater install?

The reviewed benchmark for Standard 40 Gallon Power Vent Water Heater Install is $3,930. The proposed model, outlet, vent route, termination, condensate requirements, access, and included connections still need to match.

How much is a 50-gallon power-vent water heater install?

The reviewed benchmark for Standard 50 Gallon Power Vent Water Heater Install is $4,220. Treat it as a task reference until the equipment and venting scope are written.

How much does a tankless water heater installation cost?

The reviewed UPP snapshot lists tankless installation tiers at $5,400 standard, $6,000 preferred, and $7,000 premium. Those tier names do not identify the model, flow calculation, gas work, venting, condensate, recirculation, or warranty by themselves.

How much does water heater thermocouple replacement cost?

The current reviewed thermocouple replacement task benchmark is $340. Confirm that testing identified the thermocouple rather than a different pilot, control, gas-supply, or venting problem.

How much does an electric water heater element replacement cost?

The current reviewed electric element replacement benchmark is $710. The snapshot also lists a combined element-and-thermostat rebuild at $990.

How much does an electric water heater thermostat replacement cost?

The current reviewed electric thermostat replacement benchmark is $510. Diagnosis should identify the failed control and confirm the tank and elements are serviceable.

How much does water heater maintenance cost?

The reviewed snapshot lists tank water-heater maintenance at $320 and tankless maintenance at $480. The actual procedure, isolation-valve access, scale condition, parts, and manufacturer requirements should be written.

How much is a water heater expansion tank?

The snapshot lists Expansion Tank at $530 and Expansion Tank - Add On at $320. Because those labels represent different task contexts, the quote must say whether this is standalone work or an add-on during installation.

How much is a water heater drain pan installation?

The current reviewed drain-pan installation task benchmark is $720. Drain routing, access, platform changes, finish work, and whether a pan is required for the actual installation can change the job.

How much are water heater earthquake straps?

The reviewed Water Heater Earthquake Straps task benchmark is $380. Confirm the anchorage location and complete installed scope rather than comparing strap material alone.

How much is a 10-year water heater warranty upgrade?

The snapshot lists a 10-Year Manufacturer Warranty Upgrade Kit at $380. Verify the exact model eligibility, covered parts, registration requirements, labor coverage, and exclusions in the manufacturer warranty.

How much can difficult water heater access add?

The reviewed snapshot includes a Difficult Access Fee task at $420. The quote should identify the stairs, doorway, finished-floor protection, removal route, lifting, platform, or other actual condition that supports it.

What should an all-in water heater price include?

It should name the heater, capacity, fuel, vent or electrical scope, removal, disposal, connectors, shutoffs, required safety components, startup, testing, permit responsibility, warranty, and every excluded trade or finish item.

Is a Utah water heater permit included in these prices?

The task snapshot does not encode permit inclusion. The proposal should state permit and inspection responsibility, and the homeowner should verify the current authority for the parcel and exact work.

Is tax included in the UPP water heater benchmark?

The task snapshot does not state project-wide tax treatment. Ask whether the written total includes applicable tax and whether equipment, labor, permits, disposal, and add-ons are part of the same total.

Should I repair or replace a water heater?

Price repair when testing identifies a serviceable component and the tank remains sound. Price replacement when the tank leaks or has structural failure, unsafe or incompatible installation conditions, unavailable controls, or repeated failures that no longer support a dependable repair.

Is a 50-gallon heater always better than a 40-gallon heater?

No. Use first-hour delivery, household demand, recovery, dimensions, fuel, available electrical or gas capacity, venting, and the proposed model—not gallon count alone.

Is tankless cheaper than a tank water heater?

Not in the current installation task snapshot. The tankless tiers are $5,400 to $7,000, while the listed 40- and 50-gallon tank benchmarks are lower. Operating cost, service life, maintenance, demand, conversion work, and available utilities still affect the full decision.

Are water heater prices different in every Utah city?

UPP does not publish a city-name surcharge. The current benchmarks are regional task references. A property changes the price only when its authority, access, utilities, vent route, equipment route, restoration, or other site condition changes the real work.

How much is a 75-gallon water heater installation?

UPP does not currently publish a reviewed 75-gallon installation task amount. Do not scale a 40- or 50-gallon price by capacity; the equipment, fuel input, venting, dimensions, delivery route, structural support, and connections can define a different project.

How much is a narrow, short, compact, or direct-vent water heater?

The current UPP snapshot does not contain a reviewed amount for those exact variants. Match the proposed model dimensions, capacity, fuel, venting, warranty, access, and installed scope rather than borrowing a price from a standard tank row.

Can I ask a plumbing company to send a journeyman for my water-heater job?

Yes. Ask who will arrive, that person’s Utah credential level, and who is responsible for the installation. If you want a journeyman or master plumber physically on site, put that condition in the written appointment or proposal before booking. A reputable company should answer plainly.

Is it automatically improper for an apprentice to work on a Utah water heater?

No. Utah apprenticeship is a licensed training path tied to supervision. The warning sign is a company that will not identify the apprentice, the named licensed supervisor, how the work will be checked, or who takes responsibility for the completed installation.

What does the reviewed UPP data show for a standard 40-gallon water-heater task?

The feed stores $2,440 for the named Standard 40 Gal Water Heater Install task. The task label does not establish every home's vent, access, permit, tax or restoration scope.

What does the reviewed UPP data show for a standard 50-gallon water-heater task?

The feed stores $2,670 for the named Standard 50 Gal Water Heater Install task. Confirm capacity, vent route, connections and inclusions before treating it as a project quote.

What does the reviewed UPP data show for a 40-gallon electric water heater?

The feed stores $2,090 for the named Standard 40 Gallon Electric Water Heater Install task. Electrical capacity, access, pan, expansion control and permit assumptions still need confirmation.

What does the reviewed UPP data show for a 50-gallon electric water heater?

The feed stores $2,210 for the named Standard 50 Gallon Electric Water Heater Install task. Compare the actual unit, circuit, connections, testing and warranty rather than gallon size alone.

Is an atmospheric gas water heater price published?

Not as a separately identified variant. The generic standard task labels do not state atmospheric venting, so an atmospheric amount should not be inferred from them.

What does the reviewed UPP data show for power vent?

The feed stores $3,930 for a named standard 40-gallon power-vent install and $4,220 for a named standard 50-gallon power-vent install. Confirm vent route, electrical and termination scope.

Is direct-vent pricing available in the feed?

No. Direct vent is an unsupported variant in this artifact; request a quote based on the exact model, intake/exhaust route, access, gas and electrical requirements.

Is a narrow water-heater price published?

No dedicated narrow-tank task appears in the reviewed feed. Do not reuse a standard tank amount without verifying dimensions, access and connections.

Is a compact 19-gallon water-heater price published?

No compact-tank task appears in the reviewed UPP feed. Treat the compact variant as unsupported until the model and installation conditions are quoted.

Is a 75-gallon tank price published?

No. The reviewed feed does not provide a 75-gallon tank task, so capacity, recovery, access, venting and utility requirements must be quoted directly.

Is a dual-tank package price published?

No. A two-tank or 100-gallon arrangement is unsupported by the reviewed feed and should not be created by doubling a single-tank task.

What tankless installation tiers are mapped?

The feed stores $5,400 for Standard, $6,000 for Preferred and $7,000 for Premium Tankless Water Heater Install tasks. The labels do not identify brand, model or conversion scope.

Is a tank-to-tankless conversion amount published?

No dedicated conversion amount is published. A conversion may add gas, vent, condensate, electrical, water, recirculation and wall-access work, so it needs its own scope.

Does a stored task amount separate labor from equipment?

No. The feed stores a task amount, not a labor/equipment breakout. Ask the written quote to identify the model, labor, parts, removal, testing and warranty.

Does the feed include water-heater haul-away?

It does not provide a water-heater-specific haul-away amount. A generic appliance haul-away task must not be presented as a water-heater disposal inclusion.

Are the stored prices tax-inclusive?

The feed does not state tax treatment. Render the stored amount as a task reference and require the written quote to state tax and other inclusions.

Are permit and code-correction charges included?

No universal inclusion can be claimed from the task feed. Verify the current local authority, inspection path and each code-related item in the quote.

Where can I compare a water-heater repair with replacement?

Use the named failed component, tank condition, repair warranty, service history and complete replacement scope. A component task is not comparable to a new installation without matching scope.
